Union Station Mobile App

A prototype mobile solution app designed to enhance the Union Station experience by providing interactive maps, a directory of stores and restaurants, and real-time transit schedules for seamless navigation and convenience

Overview:

Problem Statement:

The central hub of Toronto's transit systems, Union Station is often described as confusing and hard to navigate.

Travellers and regular commuters often get lost through out its intricate networks.  

Goals:

  • create a user-friendly mobile app solution to help users get from point a to  point b
  • make find store/restaurant locations and hours easily accessible
  • have real-time transit schedules to enhance user navigation and accessibility

Challenges

  • creating a design that incorporates a large amount of info in a user-friendly interface
  • aiding users in easy navigation of Union Station


User Personas:

Emily: representing Commuters (students and business people)

Emily is a 3rd year university student at UofT, studying Art History. Her commute fromMarkham, Ontario on the Go Train (or bus) brings her to Union Station 5 days week for hervarious classes and lectures. She has trouble navigating her way from either the busterminal or train platform to the TTC. Some days, she is pressed for time as the Go transit schedule is very close to her class times. She needs to be able to find the quickest andmost efficient way to the TTC. 

Aaron and his family: Representing Visitors and Tourists 

Aaron is a middle-aged man on a trip to Toronto with his wife and 2 kids (15 and 17 yearsold). They just flew into Pearson and took the Up train to Union Station. They are staying atSheraton Centre Toronto Hotel at Queen St. W and York St. They need to take the subway toOsgoode Station from Union to get to their hotel. Aaron needs specific directions from theUp train platform to the Union TTC platform.
